Senior earns her sixth career weekly honor, setting a new Georgia Southern record

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern senior Terren Ward has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for a second time this season, announced today by league officials.

The honor is also the sixth career Sun Belt weekly honor for the Jesup, Ga., native. She breaks a tie with Sharon Mitchell and now has the most career weekly Player of the Week honors in Georgia Southern women's basketball history.

Ward recorded three double-doubles in Georgia Southern's perfect 3-0 week at Hanner last week. She began with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the Eagles' win over Albany State on Monday, then collected 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in an 85-75 win over North Florida in the GATA Turkey Throwdown on Friday. Ward then finished the week with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a dominating 81-59 win over Detroit Mercy on Saturday.

The three double-doubles bring her season-long total to five, which is tied for the most in NCAA Division I through Sunday's games. On the week, Ward averaged 22.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in the three wins.

Ward currently ranks among the nation's leaders in points, rebounds and field goals heading into the Eagles' next contest at FIU on Wednesday. Georgia Southern takes on the Panthers in Miami, Fla., at 3 p.m.
