TROY, Ala.– Georgia Southern volleyball (20-7, 10-6 Sun Belt) bounced back in the season finale, taking down Troy (14-12, 12-4) in five sets on Friday.
"What a battle! Credit to our group for staying the course and coming up with big plays when needed," head coach
Chad Willis said. "I thought we did a much better job handling first contact tonight and we were physical at the net defensively. Great way to end the regular season and pick up a win heading into the tournament."
The Eagles used a massive 9-1 run in the middle of the first set to cruise to a 25-17 win.
Chamblee Russell used back-to-back kills to cap it off, and three-straight points on
Logan Jones' serves gave the Eagles the win.
Up 17-12 in the second set, the Trojans hung around just enough to battle back, using a 5-0 run to win 26-24.
In the third set, the Eagles led 19-16 and went on a 6-1 advantage over the final seven points to once again win 25-17.
Reagan Barth had a pair of kills during the run, both coming in the final two points of the set.
The Eagles again led late but fell victim to another Troy run, losing 25-16 after being up as much as four points. Russell extended her kill total to 17.
An early 6-1 run was enough to push the Eagles to a win in set five. Vickery recorded a kill and two block assists to stake the Eagles to a 7-1 lead, and the Trojans could not respond. The visitors used another 5-0 run to win 15-5.
Russell tied for the match-high with 19 kills, while Barth was right there with 17.
Megan Vickery once again had a massive performance in the block department with 11 total, and
