Volleyball Rebounds With Sweep of Marshall

Kirsten Barrett's 22 assists moved her within striking distance of 500 career, while Reagan Barth nearly had a double-double

STATESBORO– Georgia Southern volleyball (14-4, 4-3 Sun Belt) earned an efficient 3-0 sweep of Marshall (10-11, 2-5 SBC) in a bounce-back effort, winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-15 on Friday night.

"I liked how efficient we were tonight, and how good of a job we did doing what we talked about pregame," head coach Chad Willis said. "We wanted to control the pass and set, we had four aces in three sets, and I thought we did a good job of disrupting their tempo and rhythm."

Despite hitting just .200 in the first set, the Eagles used an 8-2 run at the beginning to coast to a 25-17 win. GS spread the attacking wealth around, as seven different Eagles recorded a kill in the frame, holding the Herd to a .088 hitting percentage.

Georgia Southern found its attack in the second set, hitting an even .400 in another 25-17 win. Reagan Barth's seven kills were a large factor in this set and a pair of blocks for the home team.

The Eagles rode all the momentum from the first two sets to sprint to a 25-15 set three win, earning a much-needed Sun Belt victory after a pair of losses at the hands of Coastal Carolina the previous weekend.

Barth had 15 kills and nine digs for a near-double-double, and Jillian Gray also reached double-digit kills with ten.

Chamblee Russell added eight kills, three digs and two total blocks in a solid effort, and Rebekah Farthing's 13 digs were tied for a match-high.

Kirsten Barrett recorded 22 of the Eagles' 39 assists, moving another 22 assists away from 500 career in just two seasons. Her mark was high for all players.

"We came into this week with a chip on our shoulder and we were motivated to undo last week's errors," Barrett said. "We did a great job of staying connected as a team on and off the court today."

The Eagles return for another date with the Thundering Herd on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
