PREVIEW: Men's Tennis Prepares for Three Matches in Two Days

Eagles host The Citadel for Saturday doubleheader followed by UNF on Sunday

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team will host three matches over the weekend at the Wallis Tennis Center in Statesboro, Ga. On Saturday, the Eagles will host The Citadel for a doubleheader with the first match beginning at 10 a.m. and the second beginning at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Eagles will meet with the UNF Ospreys for an afternoon match beginning at 2 p.m.

THE CITADEL OUTLOOK: The Citadel comes to Statesboro holding a 1-6 record after suffering five-straight defeats. The Citadel has played teams all based in the Carolinas, including South Carolina State, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, South Carolina, and Clemson. Last season, the Bulldogs finished with a 6-26 record, including an 0-7 mark in SoCon play. This is the first time the two squads have met since 2021, where the Eagles swept the Bulldogs in a 7-0 rout. The Eagles lead the overall series 30-6 and have not lost to the Bulldogs since 2010.

NORTH FLORIDA OUTLOOK: This will be the season opener for the Ospreys, who have not traveled to Statesboro since 2021, where they narrowly defeated the Eagles 3-4. The two squads last met in Jacksonville, Fla., in the 2022 season, where the Eagles fell to the Ospreys 3-4. Last season, the Ospreys finished with a 16-8 record that included a 6-2 mark in ASUN play. The Ospreys were picked to finish second in the ASUN, just behind favorite Liberty. UNF currently holds a 13-9 lead in the all-time series against the Eagles. 

UP NEXT
The Eagles will take to the road on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12 to face off against Kennesaw State and Chattanooga, respectively. The Kennesaw State match is set for a 1 p.m. first serve, while the Chattanooga match is set for a 2 p.m. first serve.
