CLINTON, SC – The Georgia Southern men's soccer team dropped a season-opening contest with Presbyterian, 1-0, Thursday night at Edens Field.
The Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-0-0) scored the game's only goal in the ninth minute of the contest with a kick that went through the top center of the goal. Georgia Southern (0-1-0) had several chances to score but was unable to get one through the net.
"I was proud of the team we put out there tonight," said head coach John Murphy. "We started nine freshmen and two sophomores, and with the exception of the goal and a couple moments, we had a good grip of the game. We created a lot of chances and and some cohesion, which is what you want from your team, it's hard to come by when you have a young group."
"Our two centerbacks, Nick Gettridge and Victor Kubel, were fantastic," Murphy continued. "I thought Dagoberto Romero was very good in the goal overall, and we got a good performance from Samuel Odame. There's lots to build on. We're disappointed we didn;t get something out of the game, but we'll use it as a platform to prepare for Sunday and the rest of the season."
The Eagles outshot the Blue Hose by a margin of 11-9 on the night, and only had six fouls compared to PC's 10.

The Eagles will travel up to UNC Asheville to take on the Bulldogs on Sunday, August 28. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Greenwood Soccer Field.
