The Eagles will play in the New Haven Regional.
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's golf team has earned an at-large bid to the New Haven Regional for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, it was announced on The Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon.
The regional is scheduled for May 16-18 at Yale Golf Course, where the Eagles will compete against 13 other teams and five individuals. The Yale Regional is one of six in the country. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be played May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Playing in the New Haven Regional field along with Georgia Southern are North Carolina, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Illinois, NC State, Charlotte, North Florida, Mississippi State, Virginia, UCF, Seton Hall, Yale and Sacred Heart.
"Any time you earn an at-large bid to the regionals, it means the team has accomplished enough throughout the year to provide this opportunity, and we're very excited to play in the postseason," said Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins. "The site looks great. We've heard great things about the golf course, and now we're concerned about getting ready and playing our best once we get there."
Ranked 49th in the country (Golfstat), the Eagles are making their 27th appearance in the NCAA Championships, the fifth under Collins and the 10th in Collins' 15-year tenure on the coaching staff. Georgia Southern has earned bids to the last three NCAA Championships and advanced to the NCAA Finals in 2019.
Georgia Southern tied for first in the stroke play portion of the Sun Belt Championship April 26, its third team tournament title this season. Ben Carr (T3), Wilson Andress (T5) and Mason Williams (T8) all finished in the top-10 and were named All-Sun Belt in a vote by the league's head coaches. Carr will be playing in his third NCAA Regional, and Williams will compete in his second.
