MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Georgia Southern baseball team fell to Louisiana in the SBC Championship on Sunday afternoon, 7-6.
Georgia Southern (40-18) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning off the back of solo home runs from both
Noah Ledford and
Sam Blancato. In the bottom of the third inning,
JP Tighe would knock the Eagles third consecutive homer of the day, Ledford would knock an RBI-double to center field to score
Jesse Sherrill, and
Austin Thompson would hit an RBI-single to center field to score Ledford.
Louisiana (36-21) would score three runs in the top of the fourth inning, one in the top of the sixth, and one in the top of the seventh to even the score at 5-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Jarrett Brown would bring Avant home on a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Eagles the lead, 6-5. In the top of the ninth inning, a Louisiana RBI-double would score the tying-run, and a runner advancing to home on a throw down to second would score the go-ahead run and give UL the 7-6 lead.
The Eagles would threaten by loading the bases with two outs, but UL shut down the Eagles threat to win the SBC Championship.
