WGOLF Preview: Eagles Set for Sun Belt Championship

The tournament starts Sunday in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Georgia Southern competes in the Sun Belt Championship April 17-19 at the LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Florida. All three rounds will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

It's the fourth time the Sun Belt will host its women's golf championship at LPGA International, and the Eagles have finished third each time. Georgia Southern has finished third in its last three Sun Belt Championships, and the Eagles have placed fourth or better in four of the five Sun Belt Championships that have been held since the school began its women's golf program.

The Eagles are coming off a victory in the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate April 5. Sarunchana Rattanasin won medalist honors for her first career collegiate victory.The freshman matched the school record with a 66 in the first round and shot 66-71-71=208 (-8) for the tournament, rolling in 15 birdies in the event. She was named Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time this season.

Sophomore Abby Newton posted the school mark of 66 again in the third round at Mimosa Hills and placed third for the best finish of her career. Mia Kness finished eighth, and Madison Heideman tied for 24th. The Eagles recorded their first win and fourth top-2 finish of the season. It was the third team victory in school history as the program began in 2015.

Newton makes her 18th start in the lineup for the Eagles, while Rattanasin and Kness and will be playing in the lineup for the 10th time in their Georgia Southern careers. Heideman makes her seventh career start, and Kaysie Harrelson makes her fourth.  

The Eagles are paired with Arkansas State and Little Rock in Sunday's first round and will tee off the first hole at 8 a.m.
