Ben Carr and Mason Williams are tied for second.
STATESBORO – Senior Ben Carr fired a 67, and classmate Mason Williams carded a 68 as the Georgia Southern men's golf team maintained its lead following the second round of the 42nd playing of the Schenkel Invitational Saturday at Forest Heights Country Club.
Carr (-8) and Williams are both tied for second, two shots behind College of Charleston's Kieron van Wyk (-10), who followed yesterday's 66 with a 68 today.
Wilson Andress shot a 73 for the Eagles, and Brantley Baker followed yesterday's 67 with a 75 to make up the other counter for the team score. Luke Dasher put up a 72 as an individual and is tied for 27th, and Baker is tied for 12th.
The Eagles (-20) have a 10-shot lead over second-place Kentucky (-10), which fired a low round of 280 today and charged five places up the leaderboard. Notre Dame (-9) is in third, while UAB (-7), College of Charleston and Cincinnati are tied for fourth. The field features four teams ranked nationally in the top-50 and seven individuals ranked in the top-100, according to Golfstat.
After his first bogey of the tournament on hole 2, Carr played the rest of the round 6-under and bogey free with six birdies. Williams posted an eagle on the par-5 7th and added birdies at 9, 10 and 12. After a bogey on 14, he posted three straight pars before finishing with a birdie on 18. Andress played the back nine 1-under, finishing the day with six pars and two birdies, including one on 18.
