Zuri Clavo Named CCSA Swimmer of the Week

The Eagles' first CCSA swim honor since November of 2020

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern sophomore Zuri Clavo has been named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimmer of the Week, announced today.

Clavo led Georgia Southern at this weekend's dual meet against UNF and Vanderbilt by placing first in the 1,000 Free in 10:28.03. Clavo also had a second-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:06.89. She also placed fourth in the 800 Free Relay as the anchor leg.

"To have a student-athlete named CCSA Swimmer of the week within the first week of assuming the leadership of Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving is a privilege," Head Coach Allyson Sweeney said. "To have Zuri Clavo - a young woman who embodies all that it means to be a Georgia Southern Eagle - receive this honor makes this a poignant moment for our program. A fierce competitor, Zuri's consistency and determination within races - specifically within her events this past weekend - continue to demonstrate her ability rise to any occasion for her team. If Zuri's early performance is any indication for our program, I'm excited for all that's to come this season!"

This is the first time Clavo has won the title of Swimmer of the Week in her career. This is the first CCSA weekly swim honor the Eagles have had since November of 2020 with Annamaria Hornyak.

The Eagles return to the pool Oct. 29 at noon in Buies Creek, N.C, facing Campbell.
