HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Emily Jarome collected a match-high 18 kills to lead Georgia Southern to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) Sun Belt volleyball win over Marshall Friday night in the Cam Henderson Center.
Eagles of the Match
Jarome hit .351 in the match while adding four digs and an ace, and
Jordan Christy finished with nine kills and a block.
Baylor Bumford and
Paige Powers each tallied seven kills, and
Ashlyn Lovett finished with a match-high 18 digs.
Callaway Cason tallied 35 assists, five digs and two aces.
Key Moments
With the Eagles (11-6, 3-2) leading the match 2-0 and the score tied 22-22 in the third, GS won two straight points on a Jarome kill and a Marshall hitting error. The Herd (7-12, 1-6) staved off match point with a kill by Essence Clerkley before Jarome put down a monster kill to end the contest.
Marshall trimmed a six-point deficit to one by scoring five straight points in the second set, and block by The Herd made the score 23-22 in favor of the Eagles. The teams traded points before a Marshall attack error gave the set to the Eagles.
