PREVIEW: Men's Tennis Set To Open 2022 Season In Tallahassee

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team begins their spring 2022 campaign on the road, where they will travel to Tallahassee, FL, to face the Florida State Seminoles in a late addition to the schedule.

The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

SERIES: The Eagles are 6-25 all-time against the Seminoles, coming into this match with a 10 match losing skid. The last time the Eagles beat the Seminoles was in 1990, a 5-4 decision. The most recent meeting between the two was in 2019, where the match ended in a 4-0 Florida State victory.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN OUTLOOK: The Eagles completed the 2021 campaign with a 12-10 record, including finishing with a strong 5-2 home record. Georgia Southern progressed to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championship, where they fell to Georgia State in a 4-1 decision. Georgia Southern enjoyed success through the season, as they powered through a six match win streak, taking down former SoCon foes Furman, Mercer, and Davidson in that streak. The 2021 season also saw some players fly high, with Alexandros Roumpis earning an ITA Doubles ranking with former player Murphy McCullough. Former player Pascal Wagemaker was chosen for the 2021 Sun Belt Postgraduate Scholarship, CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team, and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

FLORIDA STATE OUTLOOK: Florida State posted a 10-16 overall record last season, including a 2-10 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). FSU fell in the quarterfinals of the ACC Men's Tennis Championship to North Carolina State, a 4-1 decision. FSU returns junior Loris Pourroy, who was named to the All-ACC Men's Tennis Second Team.

UP NEXT: Georgia Southern will stay on their road to play their second and final ACC opponent, as they travel to Winston-Salem, NC, to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on January 20. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
