Senior baseball player earns first-team honor
AUSTIN, Texas – On Thursday afternoon, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced its 2021 Academic All-America Baseball Teams. Georgia Southern's Mason McWhorter earned a spot on the first team and is one of 31 first-time selections to the All-America team.
A native of Cumming, Georgia, McWhorter graduated from Georgia Southern with an undergrad degree in sport management. After being granted another season by the NCAA during the COVID-19 pandemic, McWhorter continued his academics and pursued his Master's in sport management, posting a 3.67 GPA.
McWhorter started in all 57 games that the Eagles played in 2021, breaking the Georgia Southern doubles record with 67. He ranks top 10 in multiple statistical categories and finished his final year with a .372 batting average. He led the team with 18 home runs and gathered 52 RBIs this season.
