Eagles Shut the Door on Jacksonville


STATESBORO, Ga. – Jay Thompson worked three and a third innings and struck out three batters to improve to 4-0 on Tuesday evening, as the Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 4-3 at J.I. Clements Stadium. 
 
Nick Jones collected his nation leading 12th save, recording the final five outs. Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the first, when Mason McWhorter hit his 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
 
Jacksonville responded in the top of the second with a two-run blast of their own. Georgia Southern would retake the lead in the sixth, as Austin Thompson flied out to center field to score McWhorter. In the seventh, Jarrett Brown would score on a wild pitch to add some insurance for the Eagles. Jacksonville would threaten in the eighth, cutting the lead to one.
 
Georgia Southern will jump back into conference play this weekend with a meeting between the top two seeds in the East. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
