Thompson's Walk-Off Lifts Eagles over Mercer

STATESBORO, Ga. – Austin Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Mercer Bears 3-2 on Wednesday. The Eagles improve to 19-13, while the Bears fall to 20-12. 
 
Nick Jones picked up his first win of the season, improving to 1-0, entering in the ninth and keeping the game at 2-2. In the first Mercer got on the board first with a solo shot in the top half. In the third the Eagles would respond with a single by Mason McWhorter through the left side to score Blake Evans.
 
In the top of the fifth, Mercer regained the lead on a single to left field. In the seventh Christian Avant singled through the left side to score Jarrett Brown from second.

UP NEXT
Georgia Southern baseball will hit the road for the start of a seven-game road stint. The Eagles will begin the trip with a meeting against conference rival Coastal Carolina from Spring Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
