Owens Deals, Eagles Score a Ton on Thursday Evening

ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia Southern baseball scored a season high 23 runs on 24 hits to improve to 13-11 on the season and 4-3 in conference play, defeating Georgia State 23-1 on Thursday. The Panthers fall to 5-22 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
 
Tyler Owens improved to 3-0 on the season, working six innings of three-hit baseball for the Eagles, extending his streak of not allowing an earned run to 16 innings. Connor Bruce, Tyler Jones and Austin Kleinlein all held down the backend of the ball game for the Eagles. Kleinlein closed out the game in the ninth in his first appearance in three years, allowing a walk and striking out the side.
 
Four Eagles homered on the evening as Christian Avant, Mason McWhorter, Noah Searcy and Austin Thompson left the yard. McWhorter finishes the night a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Austin Thompson drove in a career-high five RBIs in the victory, with a 3-for-7 night. He added four runs scored to his line as well. 
 
The Eagles and Panthers will continue the Easter weekend series on Friday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Atlanta.

TOP 4th | GS 13 – GSU 0 | Christian Avant hit a two-run homer to left field. Biederer and Anderson scored. Jarrett Brown reached on a fielder's choice and two more Eagles scored. Curry singled to score a run. Swan singled to center to cap off a seven-run inning for the Eagles.
TOP 5th | GS 15 – GSU 0 | Brown grounds out to second to score a run. Curry singled to left to score the second of the inning.
TOP 6th | GS 21 – GSU 0 | Thompson singled to center to bring in the first run of the sixth. Anderson grounded out to score another Eagle run. Jaylen Paden tripled to center field to score a pair. Noah Searcy homered for the first time this season to score a pair.
TOP 7th | GS 22 – GSU 0 | Thompson homered to right field, a solo-shot.
BOTTOM 7th | GS 22 – GSU 1 | Georgia State scores on a wild pitch.
