STATESBORO, Ga. - Tyler Owens improves to 2-0 on the season, striking out six batters and allowing one unearned run in the Eagles 3-1 victory over Appalachian State on Friday. Georgia Southern improves to 11-9 on the season and 2-2 in conference play, while the Mountaineers fall to 10-10 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Georgia Southern scored the first run of the ballgame on Friday, when Jarrett Brown flied out to center field to score Noah Ledford. Jarrett Brown doubled in the fourth off the wall in right to score Christian Avant from first.
Appalachian State scored their first run of the ball game in the sixth on a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Eagles would add an insurance run in the seventh, when Matt Anderson laid down a bunt single to score Avant.
Georgia Southern and Appalachian State will face off in game two tomorrow afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
