Eagle Volleyball Caps Season with 3-0 Loss to North Florida

The Eagles are slated to return 13 letterwinners in the fall.

STATESBORO – Kailey McKnight tallied 13 kills and seven digs, and North Florida served nine aces en route to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) volleyball win over Georgia Southern Tuesday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.

It was the season finale for the Eagles, who played 15 matches, including the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, in the fall. North Florida, which began its season in January, improved to 1-4.

Eagles of the Match
Chamblee Russell led the Eagles with seven kills to go along with five digs, while Mya Wilson, Baylor Bumford and Haley Fuller all collected four kills. Ainsley Clifford finished with three aces to go along with five digs, and Christina Walton posted three kills and a pair of blocks.

Key Moments 
Trailing 1-0 in the match, Georgia Southern (5-13) won four of the first five points of the second frame and led 9-4 after kills by Fuller and Bumford and a block by Fuller and Walton. Trailing 11-6, North Florida used an 8-3 run to open up a 19-14 cushion and take control of the set. 

The score was tied 12-12 in the third following a Clifford ace, but North Florida went on an 8-3 run and opened a 20-15 lead on an Eagle attack error. Walton put down a kill for the Eagles, but The Ospreys scored the next five points to win the set and the match.

Stat of the Match
North Florida hit .299 in the match while holding the Eagles to .134. The Ospreys posted three more blocks, six more digs and five more aces than the Eagles.

"It was nice to get three matches under our belt early in the spring. From a results standpoint, it was clearly not what we hoped for, but it provided us a chance to look at some different lineups and has given us some great opportunities to learn from.
