Big Second-Half Run Sends Coastal Carolina Past Men’s Basketball

The Eagles cap the regular season by hosting Appalachian State Friday and Saturday.

CONWAY, S.C. – DeVante' Jones tallied 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead Coastal Carolina to a 65-55 Sun Belt men's basketball win over Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at the HTC Center.

Eagles of the Game 
Elijah McCadden led four Eagles in double figures in the scoring column with 12 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals. Cam Bryant totaled 11 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Gedi Juozapaitis collected 11 points, three rebounds and two helpers. Eric Boone finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Key Moments
The Eagles (12-11, 6-8) led by as many as 11 in the first half after holding the Chanticleers to 26 percent shooting from the field, and a Boone triple put GS ahead by seven early in the second stanza. Coastal Carolina responded with a 27-7 run and opened up a 51-38 lead on a pair of Jones free throws with 4:28 to play.

Juozapaitis, McCadden and Andre Savrasov nailed consecutive triples in an 11-4 spurt for the Eagles that trimmed the margin to six points with 1:55 remaining. Jones halted the run with a layup, and the Chanticleers (13-6, 7-5) went 6 for 6 from the charity stripe in the final 1:15 to hold off the Eagles. 

Stats and Notes
- Coastal Carolina wins the season series 2-1. The teams had one contest canceled.
- GS held the Chants to 26 percent shooting in the first half, but Coastal Carolina shot 50 percent in the second period.
- Coastal Carolina outscored Georgia Southern 20-7 from the free-throw line. GS was 7 of 10, and the Chants were 20 of 26.
- The Chanticleers outrebounded the Eagles 49-32.

Next Up
Georgia Southern is scheduled to play host to Appalachian State Friday and Saturday in Hanner Fieldhouse to close out the regular season. Friday's game will tip off at 6 p.m., and Saturday's game will start at 3 p.m. Both contests will air on ESPN+ and the GS Sports Network.
