STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's basketball sophomore
Terren Ward has earned a spot on the 2021-22 Sun Belt Conference's Preseason All-Conference squad, announced today by league officials.
Ward earns a spot on the league's third team after earning 2020-21 SBC Freshman of the Year honors a season ago. The Jesup, Ga., native averaged 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in becoming only the third Georgia Southern women's basketball player to earn league Freshman of the Year honors. Ward was the Sun Belt Player of the Week on February 8 for averaging 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game in the Eagles' split with Troy at Hanner, and she was the first freshman to earn a conference weekly award in Georgia Southern women's basketball history. Ward also averaged a team-best 9.2 points per game in Sun Belt Conference action.
Ward is the first Preseason All-Sun Belt honoree for the Eagles since Alexis Brown in 2019-20, and she is the fifth Eagle to earn preseason honors from the Sun Belt since Georgia Southern joined the league. She joins Brown, Angel McGowan (2016-17), Patrice Butler (2016-17) and Anna Claire Knight (2014-15).
Ward and the Eagles will first be in action on Thursday, November 4, hosting Allen in a 6 PM exhibition contest at Hanner Fieldhouse. Georgia Southern opens up the 2021-22 regular season on November 11, traveling to SEC foe Auburn for an 8 PM matchup in Auburn, Ala.
