Eight events are on the docket, starting with the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate Jan. 31.
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's golf program is scheduled to compete in eight events this spring, including two tournaments in Statesboro, Eagle coach Carter Collins announced today.
GS will host the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at Georgia Southern University Golf Course Jan. 31-Feb. 1, and the Eagles, along with the Schenkel Committee, host the 41st edition of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club March 19-21.
GS plays in its 20th consecutive Gator Invitational Feb. 12-14, before competing in the Seminole Intercollegiate Feb. 19-21. The Michigan State Collegiate at Sea Island Plantation Course (March 8-9) starts a stretch of three tournaments in three weeks, which includes the Auburn Tiger Invitational (March 15-17) and the Schenkel Invitational. The Eagles cap the regular season at the Mountaineer Invitational April 12-13 and compete in the Sun Belt Championship April 25-28 at Mystic Creek in El Dorado, Arkansas.
"We are very excited about the opportunities ahead of us," said Collins. "This spring's schedule will be a combination of strong fields and great golf courses. There are some traditional events mixed in with some new tournaments and venues that we are excited to compete at. Adding new events at Florida State, Auburn and West Virginia will all be great new challenges and experiences for the team."
The Eagles posted three top-3 finishes in the fall and capped the stretch by winning the Bash in the Boro at Georgia Southern Golf Course in October. GS finished the fall ranked 11th in the GolfStat team rankings.
"The team worked very hard during the fall, and they accomplished some cool things," said Collins. "Now we are turning the page to a whole new set of goals so that we can be prepared and execute our best in the upcoming spring season. We cannot wait to hit the road and compete for Georgia Southern!"
Luke Dasher, Lucas Hopkins, Jacob Bayer and Avery Price get things started for the Eagles this Sunday at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate.
