Squad takes on The Citadel, Citadel Women at SSEC
TWITCH FEED
STATESBORO - The 23rd-ranked Georgia Southern rifle squad will be back in action this weekend, hosting No. 21 The Citadel, along with The Citadel women's squad, on Sunday at the Shooting Sports Education Center. The three squads will shoot starting at 2 p.m. however the SSEC is closed to fans and the general public this season due to social distancing guidelines put in place.
Live results will be available through SIUS. They can also be watched through Twitch.
The Eagles are 7-4 on the season while The Citadel co-ed is 3-5. Sunday's match will be the first for the Eagles since facing No. 5 Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 19. The Citadel competed in seven matches during the fall.
The Citadel, which was ranked No. 20 in last week's poll, faces new No. 20 UAB at home on Saturday. The Eagles fell to the co-ed squad twice this year early in the season, 4537-4512 and 4596-4506, but since then Georgia Southern has shot 4,535, 4,542, 4,563 and 4,579 most recently. That last score got the squad ranked in the top 20 for the first time in program history, but the Eagles fell out due to team inactivity. A strong performance Sunday should vault them right back into the national rankings. Georgia Southern downed the women's squad twice already.
Five pre-determined shooters from each of the three squads will count in both the USA Shooting 60-shot 3x20 small bore and 60-shot air rifle disciplines. The top four scores (among the pre-determined counters) from both disciplines are used to determine the scores for all three squads.
