NCAA SCORECARD
STATESBORO, Ga. - After nearly three months away from the firing line in a competitive match, the Georgia Southern rifle tram returned in fierce fashion, rolling past No. 21 The Citadel and The Citadel Women Sunday at the Shooting Sports Education Center. The Eagles posted a 4,574 team aggregate, the third-highest score in program history to improve to 9-4 on the year.
In smallbore, the team posted a 2,261, four points off the school record it set in November. Freshman Bella Gamez shot a career-high 570 to take first while freshman Kinsley Hannon placed second with a career-high 567. Sophomore Ashley Judson completed the medal sweep with a 564 to take third. Freshman Brianne Staton placed fifth with a 560 and Gabby Morrow placed eighth with a season-best 548.
Gamez set new personal bests with a 196 in prone and a 185 in standing. Hannon posted a personal-best 189 in standing, Judson posted a season-high 188 in standing and Morrow's 186 in kneeling was a season high.
In air rifle, the team scored 2,313 points, its second-highest effort of the season. Judson led the way with a career-best 589, good for first place. Staton took third with a 579 while Morrow shot a career-high 574 for fifth place, followed by Erin Ballard (career-high 571; 6th) and Gamez (career-high 562; 10th) also shot well for the Eagles.
Judson took first in aggregate with a 1,153 with Staton finishing third with a 1,139. Gamez finished fourth with a career-high 1,132 and Morrow placed seveth with a career-best 1,122.
Words From Coach Worman: "I'm incredibly proud of the team. They worked efficiently and professionally today. Their body language on the line was commanding and confident. The team had two world-class pep talks earlier in the week. One from Inky Johnson and another from one of the top rifle coaches in the country. Both made the point that attitude and success are conscious choices. You could see this reflected in how they competed today AND as the cohesive unit the rest of the team was doing work in support of the program and their team mates. VERY well done, ladies!"
