Eagles Blanked by No. 21 ECU Saturday

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Alec Burleson pitched a career-high eight innings and allowed two hits to blank the Eagles 3-0 in the first game of the series Saturday. The Pirates improved to 4-1 on the year, while the Eagles fell to 3-2. Georgia Southern was limited to three hits on the afternoon and Burleson helped his own cause, doubling in the first inning to give the Pirates the lead.

The Pirates tacked on an insurance run in the fourth, before Burleson capped off his career day on the mound. GS was limited to three hits on the afternoon, but had plenty of hard hit balls all over the field. Jordan Jackson suffered his first loss of the 2020 campaign, allowing three runs, on four hits. Jackson struck out four batters and walked two in his five innings of work.

Steven Curry had the only multiple hit day for the Eagles on Saturday, working a 2-for-4 day and extending his hitting streak to three games. Christian Avant also recorded a hit at the top of the lineup for the Eagles including beating out an infield single in the ninth to put two runners on late.

Jake Martin came out of the pen in relief and kept the Pirates quiet. Martin scattered three hits over his one and 1/3 innings of work. Griffin Davis also had a solid showing on Saturday allowing one hit and striking out one batter in his one and 2/3 innings of work.
