Georgia Southern opens a three-match series at undefeated and Sun Belt Conference East Division preseason favorite Coastal Carolina Thursday. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

Georgia Southern is coming off a series split against Georgia State at home last week, while Coastal Carolina won a pair of matches against Appalachian State in Boone.

Chamblee Russell was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Week Monday after averaging four kills and three digs a set while hitting .295 against Georgia State. It was the second time the freshman earned the honor this season.

Junior setter Madison Brown has topped the 2,000-assist mark for her career (2,123) and ranks seventh on the school's all-time list. Brown was named Sun Belt Setter of the Week Oct. 6.

Senior defensive specialist Landon Jones is 348 digs away from 1,000 for her career, and junior Maddie Bryant is three kills away from 500 for her career.

The Eagles were picked fifth in the East Division in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll, while Coastal Carolina was picked to win the Division. The Chanticleers lead the all-time series 17-2, have won nine in a row and are 6-1 against the Eagles in the HTC Center.

Including these matches, Georgia Southern is scheduled to play six more conference contests against Sun Belt East Division rivals before all 12 teams advance to the conference tournament in Foley, Alabama, Nov. 18-22. The tournament will feature Olympics style pool play as teams will be grouped into four three-team pods based on their finish in the league standings. The winners of each pod advance to the semifinals for a single-elimination tournament from there.

Following the weekend, the Eagles are scheduled to host Troy in a three-match series Nov. 12-13, in Hanner Fieldhouse.
