Georgia Tech Overpowers Eagles in Season Opening Doubleheader

Georgia Southern travels to FGCU and Miami Next Weekend

ATLANTA – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team had a tough outing to open the 2020 spring season as they fell twice on the road to Georgia Tech Sunday losing 7-0 in the morning match and 4-0 in the afternoon.

The Eagles (0-2) were unable to secure a singles win on the day but did have three unfinished athletes in set number three when the match was called in the afternoon. Murphy McCullough and Santiago Suarez teamed up to give Georgia Southern its only taste of victory in the morning round, defeating Cole Gromley and Chris Yun 6-1 in doubles play.

What head coach Sander Koning said:
"Today was a great learning opportunity. In the morning, we played indoors and played very well in doubles. Murphy and Santi gave us a good start. Jonathan and Pascal had a close one too. In singles, I have to give credit to Georgia Tech. They played very well, especially in big moments. They were aggressive and really took it to us."

"For the afternoon, I am very pleased with the response of our team. We battled hard in singles and there was good energy on our side. That's what we need going forward. GT is a top-40 team and we had several guys really challenge them. I think that's a good sign of things to come."
