STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern volleyball team will open the season by playing host to an old Southern Conference rival Sunday in an exhibition match in Hanner Fieldhouse.
College of Charleston visits Statesboro in the first meeting between the two former rivals since 2012. First serve is set for 11 a.m., and admission is free.
Georgia Southern is set to return 13 letterwinners and four starters to the 2019 team. College of Charleston returns eight letterwinners and three starters from last season's 24-12 squad that advanced to the semifinals of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship by defeating St. John's, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
"We're looking forward to hosting College of Charleston here in Statesboro," said head coach Chad Willis. "It is a great opportunity for us to wrap up preseason and get an idea of where we are in our process. Our team has worked hard throughout camp, and we're excited to play a quality team to get us prepped for the start of our fall campaign. We hope all Eagle fans can make plans to come out and support us on Sunday."
Season tickets for home matches are $50, and single-match tickets are $5-8 and $3-5 for youth ages 4-12. Group tickets for groups of 15 or more are available for $3 each and must be purchased prior to game day.
GS opens the regular season with three matches at the Mercer Bears Classic Aug. 30-31.
