NORMAN, Okla. – Georgia Southern's
Steven Fisk has been named a semifinalist for the Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol.
One of 30 players in the country to earn the honor, Fisk won six tournaments this season, including his second Sun Belt Championship, becoming the second player in league history to win the conference championship twice. The senior finished in the top-10 seven times and has placed in the top-25 in all 10 events he has played in.
He passed Eagle great Jodie Mudd (1978-82) for the school record in career victories with nine, and 22 of his 30 rounds played this season have been par or better. He shot a course and tournament record 61 in the second round of the Sun Belt Championship, one shy of his own school record, and was named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week three times.Â
Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced May 30 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club. In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus played collegiate golf for the Buckeyes.
The Eagles are competing in the NCAA Stanford Regional and are third on the leaderboard headed into today's second round. GS is paired with UNCG and Stanford and tees off at 11:30 a.m. ET.
