Eagle Baseball Drops Wednesday Night Contest to Charleston, 5-1

Three game league series with South Alabama begins on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Baseball dropped a 5-1 result to the College of Charleston on Wednesday night on Jack Stallings Field at J.I. Clements Stadium. Steven Curry scored a third inning run for the Eagles to tie the game, but four unanswered Charleston runs down the stretch decided the game. Next up for the Eagles is a three game weekend series with South Alabama. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m.

TOP 1ST | GS 0 - COFC 1 |
Charleston cashed in a leadoff walk in the first with a double down the third base line to take an early 1-0 lead over the Eagles.
BOT 3RD | GS 1 - COFC 1 | A two out double from Steven Curry sparked the Eagles for a run in the third inning. Mason McWhorter drove the first pitch out to right, scoring Curry and tying the game at 1-1.
TOP 4TH | GS 1 - COFC 2 | A leadoff double, followed by an RBI single from Charleston put the Cougars back on top in the fourth.
TOP 5TH | GS 1 - COFC 3 | Braxton Johns got two quick strikeouts in the fifth, but a single, followed by an RBI double gave the visitors an insurance run, pushing the lead to two.
TOP 9TH | GS 1 - COFC 5 | Three walks in the ninth inning conspired to score two more Charleston runs, pushing the lead to four innings with the Eagles down to their final two outs.

GAME NOTES
- Steven Curry led the Eagles with a 2-for-4 game. He finishes the season series with Charleston at 8-for-10, reaching base 11 times in his 13 total plate appearances this year against the Cougars. A fifth inning ground out and an eighth inning fly out were the only times that Curry was retired while batting by Charleston this season.
- Georgia Southern's offense struck out a season-low two times on Wednesday against the Cougars. 10 of the Eagles' 25 outs recorded on balls in play were on plays made by the Charleston shortstop.
