STATESBORO – Georgia Southern volleyball volunteer assistant coach Naomi Posada has been named the head coach at Shorter University. Posada has spent the last three seasons on the Eagle coaching staff.
"'The best things in life aren't things' is a quote that this staff and program has made to be so true for me today," Posada said. "Though my time has come to an end, I can't help but be thankful that I had the opportunity to be a part of Georgia Southern Athletics and the wonderful people in it. The relationships I've had here are ones that I'll always keep close to my heart. Though I am ready for the next season of life, this is definitely a tough goodbye for me. To be able to witness the example Chad (head coach Chad Willis) has set for his family and this program has been one of the greatest blessings in my life during my time at Georgia Southern. I have learned so much from Chad in this little time that it has transformed the way I coach and will coach for years to come."
Prior to arriving at Georgia Southern, Posada was the assistant coach for the Brewton-Parker women's volleyball team as well as an assistant for the first men's program in school history in the 2017-2018 season. She played both volleyball and softball at Midland College in Midland, Texas, for two years where she was named defensive/offensive MVP in softball and won the Lady Chap award in volleyball. She continued her volleyball career at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for one season where she won the Crusader Award and was a part of a team that made it to nationals in New York for the first time in school history. She finished her volleyball and softball career at Brewton-Parker and won the Baron Award.
"It is a bittersweet day here for us as Naomi takes this next step in her professional and personal journey," said Georgia Southern head coach Chad Willis. "Shorter University is getting a great coach but more importantly, a quality person. Our program has benefited tremendously from Naomi's time here. She is passionate about serving and growing others, and I think I speak for our team and staff in saying we will miss her dearly but are proud and excited for this opportunity she has earned. Personally, I want to thank Naomi for the time, effort and energy she invested into the vision we've set out for Georgia Southern volleyball moving forward. I will always be grateful for her support, how she poured into our staff and student-athletes daily but even more so for her friendship."
Posada earned the MC Legacy Scholarship at Midland and received her Associate of Arts degree in general studies in May of 2014. She was named to the President's List at Tennessee Temple and finished her education at Brewton-Parker with a Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral science with a concentration in psychology. She earned her master's degree in kinesiology with coaching emphasis at Georgia Southern in 2019.
