Eagles Upset No. 20 Appalachian State on Halloween Night, 24-21

BOONE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern football team held on to upset No. 20-ranked Appalachian State 24-21 Thursday night in front of a nationally televised audience at Kidd Brewer Stadium. It was the first win for the Eagles in 12 years at The Rock and the second straight season knocking off the ranked Mountaineers.

 

Key Moment: Facing a potential game-winning drive, the Eagles defense stopped the Mountaineers on a fourth-down desperation play from the GS 46 for the win as time ran out.

 

Key Scoring Plays:

  • Wesley Kennedy III scores on a 2-yard run to end Appalachian State's 29-drive defensive touchdown stop streak late in the first quarter. GS 7, APP 0.
  • Tyler Bass hits a season-long 49-yard field goal to give the Mountaineers their largest deficit of the year. GS 10, APP 0. 
  • Appalachian State goes 92 yards in 10 plays for the touchdown, capped by a 15-yard catch by Malik Williams from Zac Thomas with only six seconds remaining in the first half. GS 10, APP 7.
