Mason Williams Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week

Williams tied for second in the J.T. Poston Invitational Tuesday.

NEW ORLEANS – Mason Williams has been named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.

Williams tied for second at the J.T. Poston Invitational Tuesday, his best career finish, to help lead Georgia Southern to the team title. The sophomore has a 68.67 scoring average over the first two tournaments of the season, has shot 72 or better in all six rounds and has scored in the 60s in the last four.

Georgia Southern set a 54-hole team tournament record with a 47-under par 805 over at the J.T. Poston Invitational. The score also set the school record for team score in a 54-hole event, beating the previous mark by 13 strokes, and the Eagles are the first team to repeat as champion in the 14-year history of West Carolina-hosted events at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.

Georgia Southern plays in Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic, where they finished second last season, Oct. 7-8, at Warren Golf Course.
