Georgia Southern Heads to SBC Championship Meet Nov. 2
HARDEEVILLE, South Carolina – The Georgia Southern cross country team had another impressive showing at the Sand Shark Invitational Saturday morning at Sergeant Jasper Park.
The team was led by Merabu Nagwandala's school record 5K time of 17:58.8 to place fifth individually among 150 runners. The sophomore previously broke the school record a week ago at the FSU Invitational and was named Sun Belt XC Runner of the Week.
GS finished fifth as a team also with 135 points, the highest finish on the road this season.
In second and third for the Eagles was Carley Braman (14th-19:01.3) and Mattie Harris (16th-19:10.8). Both times were personal-bests.
Adriana Ducharme placed 50th with a time of 20:44.9 and Kaitlin Rocker placed 57th with a time of 20:52.3 to round out the scorers.
What coach Wes Penberthy had to say:
"This meet was a great tune up for conference. We beat the rain today with a lot of PR's. Now it's just time to get back to work for the postseason."
The team now sets its sights on the Sun Belt Conference Championship Meet Nov. 2 in McDonough.
