STATESBORO, Ga. – The Women's Tennis team was back home this week to take on the Mercer Bears on a chilly afternoon in Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles clinched the 5-2 win, taking both the singles and doubles points after a hard fought battle. 

Paula Boixader had a rocky start to her singles match, falling 4-2 at one point in her first set to Celine Schepers. Boixader fought her way back on top and won her first set 6-4 and her second set 6-3. Emilia Bujan also had a hard fight to win her match but was able to take down Alara Hollyfield 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.

The Eagles started out strong in doubles and kept that momentum throughout the rest of the match. Arianne De Winter, Emilia Bujan, Paula Boixader and Elizabeth Goines all won their doubles set 6-4.  Lindsay Truscott and Luisa Hrda won their doubles set 6-2 sealing in the point for the Eagles. 


WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN MCCAFFREY SAID
"I thought today was a good win for the women, I think they started out really strong in doubles. There was a lot of composure, particularly at number two doubles with Lindsey and Luisa. They won their match without a whole lot of unforced errors or mistakes. We also did a good job at numbers one and three. Getting that point for the doubles really gave us a lot of momentum going into singles. The two freshman, both Elizabeth and Luisa, came out really strong at five and six, earning their matches. Paula had an awesome win at number two, she really shined today after struggling at the begging. All in all it was a good day against a really good team that was well coached. We are looking forward to tomorrows match."
