Jake Storey and Archer Price named All-America Scholars.
NORMAN, Okla. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team was named a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) 18Birdies All-Academic Team for the 2017-18 academic year, while Jake Storey and Archer Price earned All-American Scholar recognition.
GS earns the GCAA All-Academic nod for the third straight season after posting a 3.46 grade point average. Storey and Price become the eighth and ninth student-athletes in program history to earn multiple All-American scholar kudos. Both received the accolade last season.
"I am very proud of the hard work in the classroom from our student-athletes," said Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins. "We are very appreciative to have great academic support from Ashleigh Rasheed, Reggie Simpkins and all of Georgia Southern Student-Athlete Services. Strong academics is one of the pillars of this program, and I'm proud of the team for accomplishing another one of our goals from the 2017-18 season!"
A total of 222 teams across all divisions of collegiate golf submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn All-Academic Team recognition. A total of 48 teams received President's Special Recognition status for having team GPAs of 3.5 or better. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Georgia Southern finished second in the Sun Belt Championship and returns seven lettermen to the 2018-19 team.
