Weather has altered game times for Saturday's series-opening doubleheader
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team returns to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend, traveling to Conway, S.C., to take on Coastal Carolina in a three-game series beginning Saturday.
Anticipated inclement weather has pushed up the starting time for Saturday's doubleheader. The two teams will now play the first game at 10 a.m., with the second game to follow at Noon. The game time for Sunday's final game of the series remains unchanged and will take place at 1 p.m.
The Eagles (21-14, 6-6 SBC) are looking to rebound after a sweep at the hands of conference-leading Texas State last weekend in San Marcos. Georgia Southern remains one of the top-hitting teams in the league, and will face the Sun Belt's and one of the nation's best power hitting teams in Coastal Carolina (18-20, 2-10 SBC), who have blasted a league-best 53 home runs this season. The Chanticleers and the Eagles rank 1-2 in the league in home runs and home runs per game, while Coastal Carolina is 2nd nationally and the Eagles are 30th nationally in home runs per game.
Each squad took on a P5 school in midweek action this week, as the Eagles dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 12 South Carolina in Columbia on Wednesday, while Coastal Carolina notched a 3-1 win over Duke in Conway, also on Wednesday.
Georgia Southern leads the overall series between the two new Sun Belt rivals, 12-10. Last year, in the first league meeting of the Eagles and the Chanticleers, Georgia Southern swept all three games, winning 8-7, 8-0 (6 inn.) and 9-1 (6 inn.).
Coastal Carolina will have live stats for all three games, and will have a premium webstream of Saturday's doubleheader.
