STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women's tennis team completed their weekend matches with a 7-0 victory against Florida A&M Sunday morning. The Eagles got back into the win column and pushed head coach
Sean McCaffrey's career record to 394 wins, creeping closer to number 400. The Eagles will have the week off and head to Orlando, Florida to compete against Rutgers, Butler, and Chicago State.
With slight winds and severe clear skies, the Eagles and Rattlers took to the courts at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Blue and White jumped out to an early 1-0 lead sweeping the doubles point.
Charlotte van Diemen and partner
Paige Christian got the Eagles on the board clinching the doubles point on court three. The Eagles used that momentum in singles play and would finish off the Rattlers 7-0.
Emilia Bujan and
Mila Hartig cruised to straight set victories on courts two and six. Bujan finished her match just moments after Hartig extended the Eagles lead to 2-0. With the Blue and White up 3-0
Paula Boixader rebounded from being down 3-1 in the first set. Boixader finished her match, winning 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets at the No. 4 position.
WHAT HEAD COACH MCCAFFREY SAID
"I believe that today's win by the ladies was a direct result of how they approached their practice day yesterday. They had a focused and business like mindset during training yesterday and that really set the tone. Our loss to Charlotte on Friday really opened their eyes at the amount of self-inflicted damage we bring upon ourselves during competition. Be it from unforced errors, double faults, or simply losing points off of balls/shots that do little harm to us. We cleaned up so much in order to come away with the win today against an athletic FAMU team. We talk a lot about making sure we strive to improve 1% each day in matches or training and today they did far better than the required 1%. Now we set our sights on Rutgers down in Orlando next Sunday!"
