Eagles Set Sights on Home Opener

Women's Tennis hosts their home opener for the second time this season

STATESBORO, Ga. – For the second time this season the Georgia Southern women's tennis team will look to open the home season, after the first attempt was rained out. The Eagles have had the following 13 days off to prepare for a weekend matchup with Charlotte and Florida A&M. The Blue and White were points away from falling to the No. 20 ranked Florida State Seminoles 4-3 in Tallahassee.

"I know the women have been anticipating this weekend's matches quite a bit," Head Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "After we battled with Florida State two weeks ago, they have worked hard on the court and in training to prepare for two tough matches with Charlotte and Florida A&M. We are really excited about playing our first matches at home this season and look forward to having our GATA game when we match up with Charlotte on Friday. We will definitely need the energy from the crowd to help us win!"

Friday the Eagles will host their annual GATA Game against Charlotte at 2:00 p.m. inside the Wallis Tennis Center. The 49ers enter Statesboro with at 3-5 record, falling to No. 23 Virginia 4-0 last Tuesday. Charlotte is in the middle of a five match road trip which includes the likes of Furman (L, 7-0), No. 23 Virginia (L, 4-0), The Eagles, Florida A&M, and Clemson.

Sunday the Blue and White will host the Rattlers of Florida A&M at 10:00 a.m. to close out a short two match home stand. The Eagles will begin warmups at 9:00 a.m. and fans are encouraged to come out for the women's match and then stay for the men's match that follows. The Blue and White will look to continue their success under new head coach Sean McCaffrey, who currently sits at 393 career victories.
