The junior has placed in the top-10 in all five tourneys this season.
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern men's golf junior Steven Fisk has been named to the Haskins Award Watch List, it was announced today.
Created by the Haskins Commission, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel is presented to the "Most Outstanding Collegiate Golfer of the Year." Known as the "Heisman of Golf," the Haskins Award has been named in honor of Fred Haskins, who dedicated his career as Head Professional at the Country Club of Columbus in teaching junior golfers the art of competitive golf.
The Haskins Award winner is annually voted on by Division I players, coaches, and select golf media, thus truly making it the players' award.
Fisk, who is ranked third in the country by Golfstat and Golfweek, became the 13th player in college golf history to shoot 60, reaching the mark in the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in October, and he narrowly missed a 16-footer for birdie on his final hole for 59. His 60 was a school and course record, and he followed that round with a 67 to tie for third.
Fisk, who has a 67.73 scoring average, opened the spring campaign with a tie for sixth at the SunTrust Gator Invitational last week and has finished in the top-10 in all five tournaments of the 2017-18 season. He was named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, is ranked second in the latest Arnold Cup Ranking and has been named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week twice.
Haskins Award winners over the years include such notables as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Justin Thomas. Ole Miss' Braden Thornberry won the award last season after capturing the individual title at the NCAA Championship.
Georgia Southern continues its spring season at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational March 5-6 at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. GS fans will have a chance to see Fisk and the Eagles at the 39th Schenkel Invitational March 16-18 at Forest Heights Country Club.
