STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern women's basketball used an 11-0 third-quarter run to pick up a 64-55 non-conference victory over visiting Winthrop on Tuesday evening at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Eagles moved to .500 on the season (5-5) with their third straight win, while the Winthrop Eagles fell to 4-6, seeing their three-game win streak come to a close.
Tatum Barber led all scorers on the night with 18 points for Georgia Southern. Junior Amira Atwater tied her own school record with 13 assists, to go with 11 points on the night, while Hailey Dias-Allen notched 15 points and nine rebounds. Winthrop was led by Kem Nwabudu's 16 points and 11 points apiece from Essence Cowan and Courtney Hagaman.

Barber set a career-high for a second straight game, bettering the 16 points she had on Friday against Coastal Georgia. She hit 7-of-13 shots from the floor against Winthrop, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, while also adding seven rebounds.
Key moment
With the score tied at 29-all just two minutes into the third quarter, GS head coach Kip Drown called a 30-second time out. Georgia Southern then went on its 11-0 run over the next 4:17 to take a double-digit lead, 40-29, as Barber had seven of the 11 points and Atwater had the other four. WInthrop never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
Stat of the Game
Atwater's 13 assists tied the school record set last season vs. UT Arlington on Jan. 27. She had only two turnovers on the night, adding a pair of steals. It was her third career game with 11+ assists, becoming only the second GS player with three or more 11+ assist games in her career (Gwenda Smith, 1993)
