STATESBORO, Ga.- On Friday, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to Southern Miss, with No. 1
Giulia Riepe picking up the lone point for the Eagles at home.
"Southern Miss played very well today and we struggled to remain consistent with our game plans throughout the match," head coach
Michele Stanford said. "We had several opportunities during both doubles and singles, but we were unable to close it out at the right moment."
The Blue and White, now with a 7-4 record, was blanked by the Golden Eagles (9-2) at the time the match was clinched at 4-0. Southern Miss came out strong and snagged the doubles point with wins at lines one and two to leave the No. 2 match unfinished.
In singles, Southern Miss won all but one of the first sets.
Lindsay Truscott tallied a 6-1 first-set score; however, her opponent slipped away in the last two 6-0, 6-3.
At line four,
Emilia Bujan was just short of earning a point for the Eagles, losing in the tiebreaker 11-9 to ultimately drop 7-6, 6-4, 11-9.
Riepe on the other hand, found success, taking down Carolin Drescher 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 to prevent the shutout.
"There was a lot to be learned today and it is important that we shake it off and move on before facing UNCG on Sunday," Stanford said. RESULTS Southern Miss 6, Georgia Southern 1Singles competition1.
