The story
After Patton hit a pair of 3-pointers to give Fisk a 6-4 lead, Georgia Southern scored the next 15 points to open a 19-6 cushion. Glenn scored six points during the run, Smith netted five and the Eagles held the Bulldogs to 0 of 8 from the field.
A 3-pointer by Kameron Foster cut the lead to 32-19 with 7:13 left in the first half, but Smith scored eight points and Glenn added six as Georgia Southern finished the period with an 18-5 run to push the halftime lead to 50-24.
The Eagles' first four baskets of the second half came from behind the arc, and
Devonte Boykins' triple gave GS a 62-32 cushion. GS scored 13 straight points, and the margin ballooned to 82-41 on an O'Connell tip-in with 9:36 to play. Georgia Southern held Fisk to 33 percent shooting for the game while forcing 21 Bulldog turnovers and turning them into 34 points.
Quotables from head coach Mark Byington
On playing before Christmas break
"It's hard, and you tell the guys to play the right way and be focused. That's the hardest thing because they have already got their bags packed, and they're dreaming of candy canes and jingle bells. So you just want them to focus on basketball and play the right way and for the most part, we did it."
On point guards recording 11 assists and no turnovers
"I thought they were finding guys, and I thought Devonte was really good on defense too. We missed some open shots early, but after the first two or three minutes, I thought Tookie got into a great rhythm and was really seeing the court and attacking and finding guys and finding the rim."
On turnovers
"Since I've been here, one of the best things we do is our turnover differential. We emphasize a lot of fundamentals and dribbling, passing, taking care of the ball and making good decisions. We also want to turn teams over with our defensive pressure and our energy on defense. We did a good job tonight of taking care of it and then forcing them. The best thing is that when we force turnovers, we're out in transition most of the time so that helps our offense."
