Final results
RALEIGH, N.C. – Steven Fisk shot 68-74-74=216, and Jake Storey carded 72-72-72=216 as the duo tied for 26th at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Georgia Southern (+23) tied for 11th with George Mason (+23), six strokes back of Winthrop (+17) in 10th. Brett Barron shot 77-67-77=221 for the Eagles, and Archer Price carded a 76-72-78=226. Cody O'Toole posted a 78-70-78=226.
The story
The Eagles ranked seventh in the tourney in birdies but put up too many big numbers in the first and third rounds to land further up the leaderboard.
Fisk led the squad with five birdies in Monday's morning session and made a nice run midway through the round. He was even after his first eight holes and then notched two straight birdies on his way to shooting 3-under on his final 10 holes for a 68. Storey played his final nine holes 1-under to shoot a 72 in the first round.
Barron led an Eagle surge in the second round with a 67 that featured five birdies and a bogey. The freshman birdied two of his first four holes and finished his last two holes with a pair of birdies. O'Toole logged five birdies in the round to shoot 70, while Price and Storey each shot 72 to power the Eagles to a 281, one of the lowest scores of the day.
Storey birdied the first two holes of the third round and added two more on holes 6 and 7 to move to 4-under early Tuesday en route to carding a 72.
Quotable from Coach Carter Collins
On the course
"The course played very long, and it was a tough test this week. Today, it combined its length with a good bit of wind."
"Coming off a very solid finish at our last event combined with the hard work we have put in coming into this event, we expected much more. We showed signs of who we are throughout the week – Steven's 68, Brett's 67 and Jake's consistent 72-72-72 - but two flat starts to our rounds cost us a good finish."
"These kind of weeks are the best chances to learn and improve, and that's what we will do in order to be ready to compete in our next event in a couple of weeks."
