Eagles Improve Each Round at Windon Memorial

Sewell leads the way with top-20 finish
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Georgia Southern men's golf team showed improvement each round in competing at the tough Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern at Onwentsia Golf Club.
The team trimmed three shots off its second round score and then another five in the final round to finish on a strong note.
Harrison Sewell and Morgan Blythe led the way in the first round on Monday, both shooting a 71 on the par-70 course. Sewell had four birdies and Blythe had his first eagle of the season. Thomas Horne also posted four birdies in the round to tie for the team lead. The team thrived on the par-5 third hole, posting a combined -6 score with four birdies and an eagle.
In Monday's second round, the Eagles were led by Sewell's 70 and Horne's 71 as the squad posted 14 birdies. Horne and Blythe led the way with four birdies apiece.
Tuesday's final round was delayed by fog, but once it started, the Eagles came out strong with four of the squad members posting a birdie within the first two holes. Erik Erlenkeuser shot a 68 (-2) with four birdies while Sewell shot a one-under 69 with four birdies. In all, the team posted 16 birdies on the round with Blythe posting four and Trace Carter recording three.
Sewell finished tied for 15th with an even-par 210 to lead the way (71-70-69) while Erlenkeuser and Blythe both finished in the top 40 of the field.
The team played the par 5s at -20, T-4th in the field and Sewell led the team with 11 birdies.
Words from Coach Carter Collins: "Not the week we wanted in Chicago. Poor coaching. It's my job to prepare them for whatever comes their way and I didn't do a good job of that this week. I've got a lot to learn from and apply moving forward. We're excited for the next opportunity and Hail Southern!"
