STATESBORO, Ga. – Kelsey Weynand tallied 15 kills, eight digs and a block to lead Texas State to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) Sun Belt volleyball victory over Georgia Southern Saturday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Cathrine Murray posted nine kills and two digs for Georgia Southern (11-12, 4-4), and Stephanie Spencer collected eight kills and four digs. Alex Beecher finished with 20 digs.
Megan Porter and Jaliyah Bolden each notched 10 kills for Texas State (15-9, 8-1), which won its sixth straight match. Lauren Kirch added eight kills and three blocks, and Micah Dinwiddie had a match-high 23 digs.
The story
The Eagle offense had it going in the first set, but GS was hurt by four service errors early in the match. Texas State broke a 22-22 tie with a kill by Weynand and a block by Kirch and Erin Hoppe. The Eagles fought off one set point with a kill by Spencer, but Porter put down a ball off a Hoppe assist to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead in the match.
Texas State outhit the Eagles .323 to .100 in the second set and .250 to .029 in the third, and the Bobcats owned a 54-45 edge in digs for the match.
Quotable from coach Dustin Wood
"We outplayed them the first set, but we had too many serving errors. I'm pretty proud with what the kids did in the first set. They made adjustments after the set, and we tried to make an adjustment but we didn't pass well enough to get the ball to the right side."
"We were a little one dimensional tonight, but our kids fought pretty hard. We made some changes from last night so that was good to see."
"We have to regroup and worry about ourselves and refine some of the things that we've been working on this week. We need to start executing a little bit better on the block and then look for consistent play and not give up four or five point runs."

The Eagles travel to Savannah State Monday for their final non-conference contest before hosting Arkansas State and Little Rock in a pair of league matches next weekend.
