QUOTE FROM COACH JOHN MURPHY
"It's always good to get a result, especially on the road. The way our schedule is set up this year, we have played a lot of away games and it's just more difficult to go on the road between getting out of class, getting on a bus and riding for hours and your routine always changes a little. However, I keep going back to the way we have started some of these games, giving up early goals. Every single one of us from the head coach down to the last guy on the bench has to take a look at themselves and decide that this isn't good enough. We are trying to hold ourselves to a high standard, but starting games like tonight on a regular basis, it's impossible to sustain any form of success.
"That being said, I'm proud of our players for showing a lot of fight to come back because Presbyterian is a good team that has greatly improved from last season. I thought Torgeir did a good job in goal for us and made some big-time saves to keep us in it there late in the game. In regards to work rate, skill level and attitude, our players are top-notch. We just have to do better with our concentration entering games because later in the game we are usually very strong, but there is some kind of mental block at the start of games. To conceded in the manner that we did, in the first couple minutes, is not the level of soccer we want to play. We all have to take some responsibility here. But we're doing this together; we're a team.
"At the end of the day, we have earned four positive results in a row which is a good sign of success at any level. We can build off this, but we don't have a lot of time to prepare for a very good Hartwick team that's coming to town on Saturday for a big conference game. We have to keep working at it and move forward in a positive way."
NEXT UP
The Eagles will return home this Saturday, Oct. 22, for a crucial Sun Belt Conference showdown with Hartwick at Eagle Field. Georgia Southern and the Hawks will kick off at 7 p.m. The two teams are currently tied with Appalachian State atop the league standings.
