The Eagles take on defending conference champion Little Rock at 6:30 p.m. Friday and will sign autographs after the match. Georgia Southern faces ULM Saturday at 1 p.m.
Georgia Southern lost both matches against Little Rock last season, falling 3-1 at home and 3-2 on the road. The Eagles swept ULM by a 3-1 score on the road and a 3-0 win at home. Last year's matches were the first in program history against Little Rock, and the Eagles are 3-0 all-time against ULM.
The matches are part of an eight-game homestand for the Eagles. It wraps up with a non-league match against Florida Gulf Coast Sept. 25 and a Sun Belt contest vs. South Alabama Sept. 26.
Georgia Southern has won its last two, including a 3-0 victory over Savannah State Tuesday.
Megan Chevalier was named all-tournament at the Bash in the Boro after tallying a career high and matching the Sun Belt high this season with 27 kills in the Eagles' win over Chicago State. The total was five shy of the school record for kills in a 4-set match. The sophomore averaged 4.17 kills (50 total) and hit .433 for the week with just 11 errors in 90 swings.
Alex Beecher averaged 5.50 digs per set last week and collected 28 digs against Tennessee State and 20 vs. Winthrop. The total against the Tigers was the seventh most digs in a match by a Sun Belt student-athlete this season. It was the 25th and 26th time she has posted 20-plus digs in a match in her career, and the junior is now 336 digs shy of the Georgia Southern career record.
Setter Kat Minnerly ranks fifth on the school's career assist list, 746 shy of third. The senior played in her 100th career match against Chicago State.
Junior Crysten Curry ranks eighth in career blocks at Georgia Southern with 260. She matched her season high with seven against Winthrop.
Three juniors who received medical redshirts last season - Beecher, Curry and Katie Bange - have returned to the lineup this season.New this year - season passes for volleyball now earn Eagle fans priority points. Adult passes are available for $20 and youth passes are only $10. Volleyball season passes grant access to all thirteen home matches for a savings of over 65 percent when compared to purchasing single-game tickets.
Georgia Southern will host the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Hanner Fieldhouse Sept. 20-22. The top-8 teams will battle for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It's the first time the Eagles are hosting their conference tournament since 2005, when Georgia Southern hosted the Southern Conference Championship in Hanner.
