
Rifle Returns to Charleston for Conference Championships

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's rifle team will compete Saturday at the SEARC Championships in Charleston, S.C.

Lewis Sets Program Records
Tori Lewis set new program records at SEARC 7 on Feb. 22. Lewis shot a new program air rifle record of 580 and a new composite score of 1123. She also shot a 543 in small bore.
Eagles Post Second-Highest Score of Season
The Eagles topped their previous second-best score of 4293 at SEARC 6 with a 4306 at SEARC 7 on Feb. 22. Georgia Southern shot a 2245 in air rifle and a 2061 in small bore at the NCAA Qualifier. Tori Lewis led the way in air rifle with a score of 580. Kathryn Youngblood was second with a 560. Emmy Johnson led the way in small bore with a score of 505.
Lewis Leading the Way
Tori Lewis leads the team with an aggregate average of 948.0 over eight meets this season. Lewis holds all three of the Eagles' program individual records. She is also averaging a team-best 556.8 in air rifle and is second in small bore with an average of 521.7.
Eagles Add Small Bore
Georgia Southern Rifle competed in the small bore discipline for the first time on Oct. 4 at SEARC 2. Adding small bore was the final step in starting the program, which began last season. The Eagles shot a 1975 in small bore in their first-ever meet and bested that score the next time out at SEARC 3 (2007).
Sophomore Campaign
The Georgia Southern women's rifle program is in its second season of competition. The newest sport on campus when it was announced on April of 2013, the rifle team returned five student-athletes from the inaugural team.
Second-Year SEARC
The Georgia Southern women's rifle team is in their second year as a member of the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference. The league includes a number of teams throughout the South East including, N.C. State, The Citadel, North Georgia, UAB and Georgia Military College.
