Attendance eclipsed 1,500 as five local elementary and middle schools were in attendance.

Megan Smith contributed 14 points and nine rebounds for Robert Morris (5-5), while Ashley Ravelli scored eight. Leah Womack added eight points and seven rebounds.

The Eagles held Robert Morris to 32 percent shooting from the field, but the Colonials used 15 offensive rebounds to score 19 second-chance points and collected 19 points off of 14 Eagle turnovers.

THE STORY
The Colonials outscored Georgia Southern 16-6 in the second period to open a seven-point lead at halftime. Trailing 23-22 early in the frame, six different Colonials made baskets in a 12-4 Robert Morris run over the final 8:30 of the period. Robert Morris outscored Georgia Southern 15-4 over the first 7:36 of the third quarter to open a 49-32 lead on a Wormack jumper in the lane.

The Eagles trimmed the margin to 11 points on an Abby Hix three-pointer with 6:16 to go but that was as close as they would get. Robert Morris went 6-for-6 from the free throw line inside the final minute to dash any comeback hopes.

Georgia Southern hit five three-pointers and made eight of its first 12 shots in the opening period, and Sams led the way with her nine points on three treys.

QUOTABLES FROM COACH DROWN
"First off, I want to thank the Georgia Southern Athletics Marketing team, they did a super job of promoting this and bringing these elementary and middle schools in," said head coach Kip Drown. "I really appreciate what marketing did to do that.

"We shot really well out of the gate and created a lot of energy, a lot of excitement. The thing about Robert Morris is they are a very experienced basketball team. A lot of their international players have had a lot of seasons playing in big games and we knew that the crowd wouldn't really bother them. They're an outstanding shooting team and they started making some shots but I felt like our team really competed well. We just went through a span where we quit making shots and kind of lost the momentum there because we couldn't keep it to the four-or-five point spread there.

"There were still plenty of positives and we're going to get better. Our big goal now is to get ready to go down to Stetson this weekend and win two so we can finish up non-conference 5-4. That's our goal, now, and it's our focus."
