First serve for both tilts is set for 6:30 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Following the weekend, Georgia Southern caps the season with four of its final five contests on the road.
Georgia Southern is 15-31 all-time against Appalachian State and dropped both meetings last season. The Eagles' last victory over the Mounatineers came in the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament semifinals, and Georgia Southern went on to top Samford in the title match. The Eagles are 0-4 against UT Arlington, and the Mavs won both meetings last season as well as a 3-1 decision in Arlington Oct. 1.
The Eagles downed ULM 3-0 and UL Lafayette 3-1 on the road last weekend.
Alex Beecher, who is ranked eighth in the nation in digs per set, has 1,590 career digs, 117 away from the Georgia Southern career record, which was set in 2003. The redshirt junior needs 172 to break her own single-season record of 604, set in 2012.
Setter/right side
Katie Bange has eight double-doubles this season, and five of the eight have included double-figure kills. The redshirt junior setter averaged 9.43 assists, 1.14 kills, 2.71 digs and 1.14 blocks a set last week.
Setter
Kat Minnerly ranks fifth on the school's career assist list with 2,773. The senior played in her 100th career match against Chicago State Sept. 12.
Redshirt junior
Crysten Curry collected her 300th career block at UL Lafayette as she notched six in the match and 10 in two matches last weekend. She ranks seventh in career blocks at Georgia Southern.
Cathrine Murray posted a season-high 16 kills at UL Lafayette Friday. The sophomore outside hitter has 48 kills in her last four matches.
Three juniors who received medical redshirts last season - Beecher, Curry and Bange - have returned to the lineup this season and played in every match.
